"As part of Deus Ex: Human Revolution's boxed offering on PC, Square Enix included a third-party coupon," a Square Enix statement reads. The store will again be stocking that version once it can receive copies that do not include the OnLive code.įor those who expected publisher Square Enix to be angry, its public statement didn't deliver. Since then, it's decided to pull all regular edition copies of the PC version so that they can be recalled. It's a nice freebie, valued at $49.99, and many were understandably upset with GameStop when it didn't bother to tell customers it was removing them. The OnLive code that GameStop objected to is for a free copy of the game through OnLive. "Please bring in this email and your store receipt or order confirmation from and present it to a Game Advisor." "We want to earn back your trust and confidence in the GameStop experience," the email continues. If you've already bought one of these copies at GameStop, you're entitled to two things: a coupon to get a "buy 2 get 1 free" offer on pre-owned items and, more importantly, a free $50 GameStop gift card. We regret the events surrounding this title release and that our customers were put in the middle of this issue between GameStop and Square Enix, the publisher of this game. "We were not aware that the product box would contain this competitor's offer. "Earlier this week, GameStop removed a competitor's coupon from standard edition PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a recent release by Square Enix," an email sent out to customers (including this CheapAssGamer member) reads. It's now trying to make up for the incident by giving out a free gift card to those who were affected. It was caught opening new copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution on PC to remove an included OnLive code and then sold them without telling customers what it had done. GameStop rubbed many gamers the wrong way this week.
